What is kinesio tape?

Kinesio-taping is a new technique currently employed for the treatment and prevention of injury at the highest levels of athletic competition. Originating from the scientific principals of Kinesiology, it utilizes flexible, body-heat activated "tape." When properly applied, it provides support and stability to your joints and muscles without affecting circulation and range of motion. It enhances the effectiveness of the body's own natural healing process to reduce pain and inflammation, and helps support muscles in motion without restricting movement.

In contrast, traditional sports taping is wrapped tightly around a joint for stabilization and support, which then begins to restrict the natural venous and lymphatic return producing increased swelling and stiffness.

Kinesio-taping can be used for treating a variety of musculoskeletal conditions and often is employed as an important part of an athlete’s post-injury or postoperative recuperation. The therapists and trainers at OSNC are skilled in the use and application of this important sports-medicine and rehabilitative tool. More information can be found at www.kinesiotaping.com.
